Bella said, “you’re kinda beautiful.”
And that’s exactly how I feel about New Moon- it was kinda great.
A few things you might want to know about me:
First: If I had the choice, I would be a vampire. I mean, really, just take a good look at my avatar.
Second: I supremely appreciate the opportunity to enjoy a visual rendering of the Twilight Saga, but I will always choose the books.
Third: I think I rented Twilight (meaning, I didn’t bother to catch it in the theater); whereas, I bought a midnight ticket for New Moon.
And what a midnight show it was- I was in theater nine of Carousel Cinemas at Alamance Crossings in Burlington, N.C. The theater was already full at 11:15pm. In fact, the seats that were left for my party of 3 weren’t the worst possible, but they weren’t very good. Want to talk about a lively, vocal group- these people (yes, there were men in the theater) were not shy to express their….appreciation for certain parts of the movie (and yes, some more than others; but I will address that in another post).
So far, the Twilight movies like to hype that melodrama vibe; and I could do without that- I think the intense-passion connection of the characters is established without so much ado.
It was nice to see all the same actors returning to fulfill their previous roles; and it was nice that the movie really did try to cover all the highlights of the book. But my goodness, it was fast. Did you feel rushed? I felt like I blinked and was suddenly transported from the US North West to Italy (oh, wait! That’s about how it happened!).
It took me a while to accept the wolves (and not because I am a vampire at heart). They just looked….really fake; and I don’t know if I just got used to it….or, if I just got used to it. I do appreciate a good wolf fight, and it was great to see the pack tear into Laurent! And I am not saying that it was particularly effective, but I did appreciate the effort to convey emotion by offering several close ups of Jacob’s face (or should I say muzzle) as he tenderly “eyed” Bella.
Let me be honest, I didn’t go into the theater expecting greatness. I didn’t think the first movie was great (well, I did until I read the books). So why did I by a midnight ticket- I wanted to enjoy the Twilight vibe. You’ve got to admit, we are a fun crowd that is passionate about our vampire vs. werewolf love story.
And I was pleased when I left the theater; not wowed or struck down, but definitely pleased.
Nice ending too-
