2009 Movie Review
"Law Abiding Citizen," is an action packed edge of your seat thriller. Its very name is a complete contradiction to every character in the movie. The continuous action only takes a break to deliver a message of man's moral struggle between developing his career and doing the right thing. Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler play the roles of their life as they are intertwined in a struggle between revenge, a failing criminal conviction system, and ambitious career goals.
Gerard Butler plays the role of a family man whose wife and daughter were brutaly murdered in front of him by thugs. He feels he was betrayed by the system, which gave one of the thugs a light sentence in exchange for testimony against the other thug, who was sentenced to death. Jamie Foxx, the prosecutor who made the deal, thinks that the father should be satisfied that the criminals received some form of punishment. The prosecutor is a very career driven person that begins to learn a lesson with a price tag that would rival any of the Ivy League schools.
Directed by F. Gary Gray; written by Kurt Wimmer; director of photography, Jonathan Sela; edited by Tariq Anwar; production designer, Alex Hajdu; produced by Gerard Butler, Lucas Foster, Alan Siegel, mark Gill, Mr. Wimmer and Robert Katz; released by Overture Films. Running time: 1 hour 48 minutes.
WITH: Jamie Foxx (Nick Rice), Gerard Butler (Clyde Shelton), Leslie Bibb (Sarah Lowell), Bruce Mcgill (Jonas Cantrell), Colm Meaney (Detective Dunningan), Viola Davis (Mayor April Henry), Michael Irby (Detective Sean Garza), Regina Hall (Kelly Rice) and Gregory Itzin (Warden Iger).
This is a very action packed yet message delivering thriller. I recommend it as a must see and hope to see Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler receive Oscar nominations for their hard work and extraordinary vision.
I give this movie 4 and 1/2 tweets I loved every second of it; however, I felt that the ending could have been written a little better.
